Dolphin Community Orchard
22 Feb 2019
The HARD/GRAFT art project which aims to plant fruit trees and create a community orchard in Dolphin House, took a positive step in December with the planting of a number of apple, pear and cherry trees in Phase I. Through the support of the D8 Men’s Shed and Seoidín O’Sullivan from Common Ground a number of workshops with residents will take place over the coming weeks. Further planting of tree will happen in March.
If you are interested in getting involved drop into the Community Centre and talk with Manus or Barbara.
Common Ground are establishing a group of ‘Grafters’ who will learn the skills of grafting and become part of the building of future community orchards across the Dublin 8 area. They organising two workshops on ‘grafting’ with Kevin Kenny, formerly from Rosemount, UCD on March 9th. They will provide root stock and scions from The Lamb-Clarke Historical Apple collection from Rosemount, UCD. At the end of each workshop we will plant the ‘whips’ into nursery beds at Richmond Barracks. These will provide tree stock for future local community orchards.
